Ford and DP World Explore Autonomous Vehicles for Large Worksites

We are continuing our Self-Driving Vehicle Research Programme to explore how autonomous vehicles can benefit businesses in Europe on a number of different levels. Our latest research has come in collaboration with DP World London Gateway, one of the UK’s fastest growing ports, where staff would normally travel multiple times per day to collect parcels from the port’s reception.

Instead, our specially adapted Ford Transit was used to mimic how an autonomous vehicle would remove the need for staff to make these trips each day by collecting and delivering parcels to the main office for them to collect from the van.

NB: In this video the van shown is driven in a private secure area not on public roads. Parking conducted in a designated loading zone only accessible to DP World staff.
