On the 24th of December, 1953, a passenger express train was making its way across New Zealand from Wellington to Auckland. On board were hundreds of passengers heading home for Christmas. Many of them would not make it to their destination. Unbeknownst to anyone on board, the train was speeding towards the worst rail disaster New Zealand had ever seen.
