During the Huaihai Campaign of the Chinese Civil War in the winter of 1948, Company Commander Gu from the Second Field Army, PLA missed the assembly signal and did not fall his troops back on time, which killed his entire company except himself. When he was found by other PLA troops, he found nobody knows him or believes his story due to he was wearing the uniform of Nationalist reactionaries he stole while trapped behind enemy lines. After his recovery, Gu went back to the military with sense of guilt. He vows to prove the existence of his comrades-in-arms and to restore their honors.
